Hard Knox Boxing Gym receives equipment worth £3,200 from trust

The Axentis Michael Charitable Trust has recently donated £3,200 worth of new equipment to the Hard Knox Boxing Gym, a local community boxing gym that has been making a remarkable impact on the lives of young individuals.

Founded in 2015, Hard Knox Boxing Gym has been providing a safe and empowering space for young people, particularly those with challenging backgrounds that are at risk of making negative life choices. The gym's owner, Bobby, has a deeply personal connection to the mission of the gym, as he himself found structure and purpose in boxing during a challenging period of his life. Growing up in difficult circumstances, Bobby's journey led him to boxing as a positive outlet.

Bobby shared:

"Boxing really changed my life. After gaining some confidence, I then went on to join a local boxing gym. This gave me all the tools I needed to push forward and motivate me to do better."

Hard Knox Boxing Gym's journey from training in a local bandstand to securing a dedicated premises in Highbridge is a testament to its commitment to promoting positive change. The gym has become a haven for young people facing vulnerabilities and challenges, offering them a consistent and supportive environment.

Bobby's dedication to supporting young offenders within the local community has been tremendous. He has collaborated closely with the violence reduction units, providing a safe space for young people referred to the gym.

One impressive success story is that of a 13-year-old boy who was linked to a county lines gang. Through his involvement with the gym, he gained confidence, lost weight, and transitioned from being vulnerable to becoming an assistant junior coach, breaking free from the cycle of exploitation.

The donation from the Axentis Michael Charitable Trust will greatly enhance the gym's capabilities to make a difference in the lives of young individuals. The new equipment will further empower the gym's trainers to continue their impactful work, providing a positive and engaging space for the community.

Bobby commented:

"Funding makes the world of difference to a small community interest company like Hard Knox. It means we get to witness first-hand the difference it makes in the lives of these young people."

Looking ahead, the gym has ambitious plans for expansion, aiming to extend their premises, offer affordable healthy snacks and shakes, and even employ a mental health counsellor to provide support.

The Axentis Michael Charitable Trust's donation is a testament to their commitment to supporting individuals and communities. By investing in Hard Knox Boxing Gym, the trust is helping to create a brighter future for young people who need it the most.
