The seventh Axentis Michael Memorial Ball in memory of the much loved former Weston Hotelier was held on the Grand Pier last Saturday.
The Bi-annual event which raises money for local causes was a great success and broke all previous records raising a staggering £252,000 in just one evening. Former charity supporters including ex Dragons Den star Theo Paphitis once again supported the event and were joined by ex-Formula 1 driver Mark Blundell and TV Presenter Quentin Willson, all of whom joined in the fund raising. A giant ‘snow globe’ was the centrepiece in The Great Hall.
Internationally acclaimed comedian Kev Orkian provided after dinner entertainment along with trapeze artists and the Grand Pier’s resident band, The Ultimate Party Band, much to the delight of the 750 guests.
Everything from the venue, the food and drink, the fantastic auction prizes and the raffle prizes were donated by supporters and friends so every single penny spent on the night goes towards helping those most in need in our local community. Local Estate Agent David Plaister lead the fun raising games and was also the evening’s auctioneer where guests had the opportunity to bid for a host of amazing prizes including a flight in a WWII Spitfire, a week’s holiday in Spain in a luxury villa and a personal appearance an motivational talk by Chris Eubank.
This year, a special plea from Theo Paphitis raised £30,000 to help fund Gracie’s appeal for a life changing op to allow to walk.
